Connecting local young people, with local employers

The Springfield Regional Jobs Committee in partnership with Link and Launch and with the support of Orion Springfield Central recently held the second Connect to Employment.

This event is designed to connect young people that have self-nominated to attend a job club each week in their own time to gain valuable skills in resume writing, interviewing and presentation skills with employers who are looking for people to join their team!

Shelly Norgard, Retail Manager from Mirvac said, “Orion Springfield Central was delighted to partner with SRJC in the recent Connect to Employment event.

The success of this initiative was truly remarkable, and we are thrilled with the outstanding response from the our local youths. The event played a crucial role in helping our retailers find suitable candidates to fill job vacancies, particularly as we approach the busy Christmas season.

From our perspective, the event was not only a great opportunity to address immediate employment needs but also a significant alignment with our Asset Strategy of Community Investment. With an approximate added value of $14,500, this event exemplified our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities, engaging with youth, and partnering with our retailers.

We are excited about the continued success of this program and look forward to future opportunities to collaborate with SRJC and strengthen our impact in these areas.

We would also like to thank the schools that supported their students attending including Woodcrest State College, Springfield Central State High School, Bellbird Park State Secondary College, Redbank Plains State High School and Glenala State High School as well as extending our thanks to the businesses Aussie Springfield Central, Specsavers, Target (Springfield and Redbank), Beach House Springfield, Price Attack, JB Hi-Fi, Boost Juice Springfield, Shaver Shop, Johnny Bigg and Hog’s Breath Cafe Springfield who took time out of their busy schedules to consider the 70 young people who attended.
