Supporting Young People’s Future Pathways at Woodcrest State College
The Springfield Regional Jobs Committee recently had the opportunity to collaborate with Kelvin from Link and Launch and Candina from the Youth Employment Project at Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts, to speak with students at Woodcrest State College about future career pathways, training opportunities and the wide range of industries available across the region.
It was encouraging to see so many young people already thinking about their future careers, from inquisitive younger students beginning to explore different industries through to the Year 12 cohort preparing to make decisions about employment, apprenticeships, training and university pathways.
One of the standout observations from the day was the strong level of interest in trade pathways alongside university opportunities. Students were keen to learn more about apprenticeships, traineeships and hands on career options, reflecting the growing awareness that there are many successful pathways into meaningful and rewarding careers.
The conversations highlighted the importance of providing young people with access to current and practical information about local jobs, skills and training opportunities. As the workforce needs of the region continue to evolve, creating stronger connections between students, schools and community organisations remains an important part of supporting future workforce development.
These young people are the workers of tomorrow and it was valuable to be able to share information about local employment opportunities, emerging industries and the many pathways available right here within the region.
The Springfield Regional Jobs Committee values the opportunity to work alongside schools and organisations such as Link and Launch and the Youth Employment Project to help young people better understand the opportunities available to them as they begin planning their future careers.
