Queensland’s manufacturing resurgence was front and centre at the Manufacturing Queensland, Women in Manufacturing Breakfast 2026

Queensland’s manufacturing resurgence was front and centre at the Manufacturing Queensland, Women in Manufacturing Breakfast, a fantastic way to kick off our 2026 International Women’s Day events alongside the Future Forgeworks team, where we were pleased to join their table for the morning.

It was a great opportunity to connect with like-minded businesses and partners who are helping shape the future of Queensland’s manufacturing sector.

The morning included a welcome from The Hon Dale Last MP, who highlighted 2026 as the beginning of Queensland’s manufacturing resurgence, followed by an inspiring keynote from Professor Cori Stewart, encouraging us all to remain curious, embrace opportunity and commit to continual learning as we grow and shape our careers.

With women currently making up just 27% of the manufacturing workforce, and the sector contributing $20 billion to Queensland’s economy, the importance of encouraging more women into manufacturing pathways has never been clearer.

The event’s theme, “Balancing the Scales, reinforced that building a diverse workforce is not just a priority — it is essential for the continued growth and strength of the industry.

A special congratulations to Zahlee Wheeler, a second-year Automotive Electrician from Allweld Manufacturing Pty Ltd, who was awarded the Leading Apprentice Award for her outstanding leadership and for inspiring other women and girls to pursue a trade.

Congratulations also to Laila Stevens, a fourth-year apprentice from Eckersley Print Group, recognised as Highly Commended Apprentice for her exceptional mentorship and advocacy for women in manufacturing.

The future is bright for women in manufacturing in Queensland and we all need to play a part in advocating, encouraging and sharing the opportunities for #WomenInManufacturing.
